MTV India has created an AI-powered Synthetic Rapper called Bot Hard. You can interact with Bot Hard on Instagram, and if you DM the virtual rapper a word or two, it will create a short rap video for you.
We, of course, wanted to try this out. Below, you have three examples. The prompt for the first rap is “synthetic media.” “Sunlight” is the second prompt, and the third is “Elon Musk.” Bot Hard says it will rap to a single word, but you can definitely get away with two. Both the terms synthetic media and Elon Musk were used as search terms that incorporated relevant data into the rap videos.

Emerging Use Cases
Collectively, we are just scratching the surface of synthetic media use cases. Think about what is happening here. The “bot” can use a word or two and conduct an internet search. Information is extracted from the results, and it is assembled in the format of a rap song. The results are then overlayed on a video reel as text, and a synthetic voice raps the lyrics while music plays.
Bot Hard’s Instagram account hasn’t exactly gone viral, but it did climb from about 600 to more than 6,000 followers in less than a month. The AI rapper is also accessible via WhatsApp where it likely has far more followers.
Regardless, it is an engaging experience. I was not overly impressed with the lyrics, but I did want to hear what Bot Hard came back with for a rap. It kept me engaged and introduced me to the MTV Hustle. You could see this becoming more sophisticated in a future iteration and creating a motivation to return to the account.
GPT-3 … Of Course
The synthetic media engine behind Bot Hard is GPT-3 — the brains behind most of the text generation solutions you will see out there. There is a lot of discussion about large language models, but if you see an example, it is almost always the OpenAI solution. It was the first to commercialization and the first to support innovative third-party applications.
If you want to check out Bot Hard on Instagram, go to the account bot.hard. Then DM the account by typing, “Hey, Bot Hard.” The account will respond. You can then type one or two words in a DM to the account. You will have your rap song and video in less than two minutes. Let me know what you think.
From UGC to Synthetic Media Content Scaling
User-generated content was revolutionary in terms of content generation. It expanded the number of content creators and total content generated by several orders of magnitude. Now that everyone has a social media account, we have reached a limit to content generation growth.
Synthetic media solutions may wind up leading to another round of rapid content growth as it is the only way to scale significantly at this point. It is likely to be accompanied by more personalization options as well. And, as with Bot Hard, entertainment is leading the adoption curve.
