Synthedia 4 - Large Language Model Innovation Conference (Online) is Next Week
Amazon Bedrock, Applause, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and more
Sythedia has partnered with Applause and Voicebot.ai to bring you the LLM Innovation Showcase next Wednesday to provide you with practical knowledge about the technology as we shift from experiments to production systems. You need to register to attend and should sign up to receive early access to the videos if you can’t make it during the live broadcast.
NVIDIA, Microsoft, Amazon, and others will be on stage, and I will ask them the questions that are never addressed in the marketing documents and staged events. You can ask questions too! 😎
Event: Synthedia 4 - LLM Innovation Showcase
Date: Wednesday, October 23, 2023
Time: 12:00n - 2:00p ET
Format: Online Zoom event with audience interaction
Practical LLM Insights from Model Providers
The objective is to dig deeper into large language models and get beyond the headlines to share some practical knowledge. This event will enable us to showcase LLM insights that I hear about regularly but are not always shared publicly. You will hear directly from the innovators doing LLM work. And you will be able to ask questions of people that are often hard to reach.
The speaker lineup includes:
Brad Abrams (Microsoft) leads the Bing Chat Experience, the GPT-4 powered solution that upended the internet search market earlier this year. Brad has deep experience in AI as the original group product manager for Google Assistant before being recruited to Microsoft’s Turing Machine Learning team. He will talk about the effort to shape OpenAI’s GPT-4 into Bing Chat and the ongoing improvements shipped since the beta launch earlier this year.
Sherry Marcus (AWS) heads up the generative AI applied science team for Amazon Bedrock, which offers several open-source and proprietary models, including Titan, Anthropic, Cohere, AI21, and Meta's Llama 2. Marcus will discuss security and privacy, regulatory compliance, quality, generative AI governance, and ease of access. In particular, she will go in-depth about Amazon’s Titan LLM, its capabilities, and core use cases. Marcus was previously co-head of Blackrock’s AI Labs, director of big data analytics at Credit Suisse, director of bioinformatics at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and a CIA technical officer.
Michael Z Wang (NVIDIA) oversees the software ecosystem and strategic alliances for the NeMo and Megatron LLMs, Tensor RT, Riva, and related services. Wang’s core focus is language-based generative AI. He will discuss the software tools, platforms, and services that software developers employ. He also built multi-GPU prototypes to run machine learning applications while at HP Labs eight years ago and understands the important interplay between hardware and software in generative AI.
Chris Sheehan (Applause) leads the AI practice and strategic accounts at Applause and has had over 15,000 users testing commercial LLMs in the field over the past 18 months. This has yielded a number of unique insights into what is working and not in terms of quality, safety, accessibility, and other key criteria. Chris will share some of what Applause has learned about the intersection of generative AI technology and end-user applications. He will also discuss the differences between testing traditional applications and those based on generative AI.
Bret Kinsella (Voicebot / Synthedia) [that’s me] will host the event and also share the latest market data on LLMs and generative AI adoption trends. You will even see some data that has never graced the pages of Synthedia. 😀
Join Us
I hope you can join us next week. Even if you cannot attend live, register to receive access to the videos immediately after the event and the packaged clips as they are released.
We will likely announce some other speakers in the next few days, so stay tuned for that news. I will update this post with new speakers, and you can see the background of everyone on the event registration page.
Also, a quick request. Please share this with some colleagues, friends, and your social network to help get the word out. Thanks!
