Wix Adds GPT-3 to Help Website Builders Create Content Faster
AI writing assistant features are showing up in a lot of places
Wix announced yesterday that it added a GPT-3 integration to help with website content creation. The company said it is gradually rolling out the feature to users in the English language first. I signed up for an account today to check it out, and the feature was immediately available.
The company implemented the feature to make it easier for website creators to build and launch their websites and improve the quality of the site content. Wix provides a number of templates and visual elements that help with website layout and visual design. However, the website creator was on their own in writing the text for headers, headlines, descriptions, and other use cases. The announcement stated:
This new feature equips Wix users with technology that significantly improves the quality of their site content and streamlines the website-building process. Users can create anything from creative titles to personalized text that is precisely formulated for their website.
Just for Website Creation for Now
When you create pages and go to add or edit a text box, one of the feature options is “Create AI Text.” A dialogue box appears asking you to indicate what type of business the website is for, the business name, whether the text type is a title or paragraph, the topic of the text, and “What’s important to mention.”
After you fill out those boxes (the first two auto-populate after your first use) and click submit, GPT-3 works its magic, and the Wix feature provides three options to choose from. You can then select the one you like best, and it will enter it into the text box, where you can edit it further. Oded Nachshon, Head of Wix Editor & Chairman of Wix Editor Platform and Wix Media commented:
"Our deep understanding of website content like the right text length, important information to highlight and the proper tone, paired with GPT-3, provides users with unmatched text quality, which is key to having a professional website."
This feature today is limited to page creation elements. Wix has a built-in content management system where you can create blog posts in an editor. There is no AI writing assistant in this feature today, but you can imagine that being added soon.
Must-Have Generative AI Features
Wix is a big company. It hosts over eight million websites for companies and creators, and BuiltWith says it has a 45% market share among the no-code website builders. W3Tech Monitors says this represents around 2.3% of all active websites.
We don’t yet know much this feature will be used. However, if AI image generators are an appropriate indicator, it may be very high. Shortly after Picsart added an integration with Stable Diffusion last fall, the company reported over a million images were being generated by AI each month.
These solutions have matured enough that they are generating good quality output, and integration to the large language model (LLM) services is relatively simple. As a result, it is easy for just about every provider to add a generative AI feature to provide more value to their users. It appears that these may quickly become common features across a number of product categories and might become an issue for solutions that fail to provide them.
In fact, we just wrote a post yesterday about how LLMs will change web publishing. This is one more example of how broadly generative AI may impact several existing industries.
