YouTuber Dom Esposito on the Real Value Behind Digital Twins
How do you save time by scaling yourself?
Dom Esposito has been a top YouTuber for more than a decade. During that time, he reviewed hundreds of tech products. However, creating a digital twin included his likeness becoming part of the product. It also offers a very different value proposition for him personally than most of the products he reviews.
Earlier this year, Dom created a digital twin using technology from Hour One, and he joined me at the Synthedia conference to talk about the process and his motivations. While most virtual human use case discussions focus on enterprise applications such as replacing an office receptionist or customer service representative, sometimes it is about people increasing what they can do with limited time.
When I published my video [with my digital twin], one of my creator friends said if they could do this and not have to be on camera all the time, that would be fantastic. I think the creator space is somewhere this could be used a lot. I’m all for making my life easier. Time is the one thing you can never get back. I’m excited for all the opportunities this brings, not only with the avatar but with everything in the future virtual beings will bring.
Esposito’s business is content creation. He is thinking about how he can more efficiently create content that will be valued by his audience.
New Technology = New Use Cases
Replacing a contact center employee may be neither the most interesting nor the first place virtual human technology is adopted. The emergence of digital twins for everyone, from celebrities to politicians, is already making headlines. That use case represents a new way to engage with fans and followers. It makes their fan engagement more scalable. It also creates a new kind of engagement format. It’s the equivalent of a new product.
Creators are not as focused on scaling their engagement, though that may become important in time. Instead, creators today can leverage virtual humans to create more content in a different, more scalable format. It has the potential to deliver a new, more scalable product.
Dom talks through his thinking on this topic and more in our interview. Let me know what you think in the comments.
