The future of Gen AI in gaming overlooks the importance of the Ikea Effect in UGC. The bias suggests that people place a higher value on things they helped to build or create—even if they are technically “worse.” The connection between (1) Roblox being a community-generated product, and (2) the idea of labor leading to love, is pretty clear.

It brings them strong word-of-mouth growth, brand affinity, higher user tolerance for issues, deeper levels of usage and engagement, as well as a lower risk of platform churn.

I believe this force is a strong undercurrent to Roblox’s success and continued growth.

It will be interesting to see whether Gen AI dilutes this effect or enhances it.

This is a really interesting point. I am not sure how to calculate this. However, I am not sure we are talking about taking away the "pride in authorship" by employing generative AI. The conceptualization still remains with the human. And many of the AI-generated elements will be pieces of the final product. It may be that the same "pride" / affinity is the result because there will still be a lot of creator/developer/designer/innovator content in the final product.

What do you think?

Yes I would agree that AI will be pieces of the final product, and it remains to be seen if the beauty in the struggle is a factor in 'pride of authorship'.

But ultimately, If you didn't have an edge before [insert technology], you won't have one because of [insert technology]. Case in point, Lupe Fiasco here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZVw06KceXA

What AI processor are they using? The article seems to imply they are not using OpenAI

I'm not sure if you mean which LLM or which hardware stack by AI processor. However, neither were revealed. The statements do imply they are using something other than OpenAI as it is on "their own infrastructure." Sorry I don't have more details at the moment.
